About

Achieve Wireless Inc is a North Carolina corporation with roots in wireless and telecommunications services.

Today the company’s focus is operating an internet research network: a small, independent autonomous system used for networking experimentation, education, and demonstration rather than commercial transit or access service.

The network

Achieve Wireless operates AS961, registered with ARIN. Routing details are public; see AS961 on bgp.tools.

The network exists to answer questions. How do overlay and tunnel-based architectures behave under real routing? What does it take to interconnect at small scale, on a small budget? How did older transports like dial-up, serial, and circuit-switched connections actually work, and what can they still teach? We build the infrastructure to find out, and we document what we learn.

The network in action

Achieve Wireless provided network infrastructure for a project on The Serial Port, a YouTube channel covering networking and telecom technology. AS961 was used in the ISP series episode “1.5Mbps of pure ’90s: Setting up a T-1 today”, which brought a 1990s-era T-1 internet connection online using period equipment.
